When first starting to swipe to the left, and then (while not letting go) swipe to the right, the first left side is triggered instead of the right one.
This PR removes the check that the direction is set only when the direction is unknown. I don't know if this has other consequences / impacts, but I guess that it was there for performance optimization reasons, which in the end lead to a bug.
