Made Policies

Made is a non-profit organization and it is entirely run by its members, on a volunteer basis. The main ideology behind Made's policy is: Be excellent to each other.

If you suspect that something you are planning would bother the other members, it's probably not something you should do. The rules are meant to keep the space running and keep the members happy.

These rules were proposed and voted on during our Member Meetings; they can be subject to change and new rules may be added.

Running a Workshop

All members have the right to run workshops in the space, given that they notify the other members in advance. Members can run free workshops for free, or for profit- but if you plan to charge anything, you must donate to Made 1 euro per person in attendance per hour. For example, if you are running a paid 2 hour workshop for 6 people, you would need to donate 12 euros to Made for the use of the space.

We have hosted a variety of workshops and events in the past (this is not a comprehensive list):

  • 3D printer DIY assembly with FormBytes
  • Arduino (introduction and advanced)
  • Raspberry Pi
  • "Demolition Zone"; kids and adults get to take apart common household appliances
  • Lock picking
  • Costume design

If you would like to organize a workshop, please propose a date and time in the Whatsapp group and Google Group at least a few weeks in advance.

Using the Equipment

  • A few of the tools in our space are easy to break and/or dangerous, and require that you attend a training session before you may use them. Currently, you need training to use the laser cutters, CNC, and 3D printers. The golden rule for other power tools is: if you haven't used this exact make & model of tool before, please ask another member to show you how to use it safely.
  • Taking tools out of the space is prohibited; in special cases (fairs, school events, emergencies, etc.) , you may ask the group via Whatsapp at least 24h in advance.
  • Some tools have components that wear down and/or need replaceable parts (drill bits, sand belts, saw blades, etc.). If you break or wear down something, you must buy the equivalent replacement. Save the receipts; in some cases Made can cover the cost.

General Rules

  • Be excellent to each other
  • Be aware of the information posted in the mailing list and Whatsapp group
  • Members can invite non-members to visit the space and guide them around. If the visits becomes frequent, the non-member should be invited to become a member.
  • Members have access the space 24/7*
  • Do not treat the makerspace like your home; it is a shared space. Sleeping anywhere in the space is forbidden.
  • Workbenches should be completely clean when you leave - be considerate for the next user.
  • Please put tools back where you found them
  • Don't defeat or hack safety features/equipment. This is for other people's safety as much as yours.
  • If something is broken, fix it; don't complain. If you can't fix it, inform the mailing list ASAP.
  • If you're doing something major, ask the mailing list first.
  • Keep your bookings of equipment updated. Cancel or free up time for others.
  • If you want to lend or donate a tool or equipment to the space, tell the member in charge of the inventory so it´s listed and labeled.
  • If you are the last person leaving the Makerspace, make sure all windows and doors are closed and locked, the lights are off, and all heating tools are unplugged (soldering irons, hot glue guns, 3D printers, etc.)
    • all lights are off
    • the heater is off and the gas valve is closed
    • tables and floors are clean
    • if garbage bins are overflowing take the garbage down
    • items are where they are supposed to be
    • close the door using the key

Try to be aware of the communication streams and tasks within the makerspace. If you can collaborate by picking tasks from the Trello board it will make our space even better!

Member Meetings

What: A monthly meeting for the members of Made get together and chat.

Where: At Made (in the common area).

When: TBD each month. Meetings last approximately one hour; please be punctual!

Who: All current members of Made. If you cannot attend a meeting you must choose another member to be your representative in the event of a vote; to announce your delegate to the group, leave a message in the mailing list.

Why: Members can propose new ideas, discuss the challenges facing the organization, and vote on how we should proceed. Members post the topics that they want to be addressed during the next meeting on our Meeting topics Trello board. If a topic is not posted on the board before the meeting, it might not be discussed.
