This is a Go middleware log output inspired by the Ruby on Rails log output for requests. Example output:
Started GET "/" 127.0.0.1:12345 HTTP/1.1
Completed 200 in 3.7455msgo get -u github.com/aaronvb/logrequestThe three ways you can have logrequest return request data:
ToLogger(logger *log.Logger)directly sends to alog.Logger.ToString()returns amap[string]stringwith the keystartedandcompleted.ToFields()returns aRequestFieldsstruct that contains the fields in the request. (See below)
type RequestFields struct {
Method string
Url string
RemoteAddress string
Protocol string
Time time.Time
Duration time.Duration
StatusCode int
}There are two optional options you can pass to the LogRequest struct:
NewLine (integer) - This will append N lines at the end of the log output. Note: This only works with logger output.
Example:
lr := logrequest.LogRequest{Request: r, Writer: w, Handler: next, NewLine: 2}Started GET "/" 127.0.0.1:12345 HTTP/1.1
Completed 200 in 3.7455ms
Started GET "/home" 127.0.0.1:12345 HTTP/1.1
Completed 200 in 1.891ms
Example:
lr := logrequest.LogRequest{Request: r, Writer: w, Handler: next, Timestamp: true}Started GET "/home" 1.1.1.1:1234 HTTP/1.1 at 2020-05-13 02:25:33
Example:
lr := logrequest.LogRequest{Request: r, Writer: w, Handler: next, Timestamp: true, HideDuration: true}Started GET "/home" 127.0.0.1:12345 HTTP/1.1
Completed 200
Middleware Example (using gorilla/mux)

"log"
"net/http"

"github.com/gorilla/mux"

errorLog *log.Logger
infoLog *log.Logger
}
func main() {
infoLog := log.New(os.Stdout, "INFO\t", log.Ldate|log.Ltime)
errorLog := log.New(os.Stderr, "ERROR\t", log.Ldate|log.Ltime|log.Lshortfile)
app := &application{
errorLog: errorLog,
infoLog: infoLog,
}
srv := &http.Server{
Addr: ":8080",
ErrorLog: errorLog,
Handler: app.routes(),
}
infoLog.Printf("Starting server on %s", ":8080")
err := srv.ListenAndServe()
errorLog.Fatal(err)
}
func (app *application) routes() http.Handler {
r := mux.NewRouter()
r.HandleFunc("/foobar", app.foobar).Methods("GET")
// Middleware
r.Use(app.logRequest)
return r
}
func (app *application) foobar(w http.ResponseWriter, r *http.Request) {

}
// Middleware
func (app *application) logRequest(next http.Handler) http.Handler {
return http.HandlerFunc(func(w http.ResponseWriter, r *http.Request) {

lr.ToLogger(app.infoLog)
})
