All of the original contributors are gone from Fedora. And I unfortunately don't have time for pyp2rpm other than dealing with very critical bugs.

@gordonmessmer was very active recently in pyp2rpm and I'd like to pass the project to him, if interested.

There are several open pull requests in here. Getting them reviewed/updated/merged (or closed) is a good way to contribute here.

In the near term, I'd like to:

• Resolve an issue with a corner case for converting python packaging requirements to rpm (https://github.com/gordonmessmer/pyreq2rpm/)

• Go over Handle PEP 440 compatible-release "=~" #196 and make sure that all of the requirement conversions match pyreq2rpm, and fix anything that doesn't.

• Handle PEP 440 compatible-release "=~" #196 introduces a micro-test module rather than pulling a third-party python module into git. My preference is not to commit blobs to git, generally, and to avoid potential licensing issues arising from including third-party code [1], but I'd like to know if anyone else has thoughts. That may inform the review of PRs currently open that include new modules in tests.

• Merge Remove support for wheel archives. #206 and Use latest stable version by default #209

• Review allow skipping extras_requires from (Build)Requires #213 and only include the pycache files for the built module #214

• Tests for added blackPanther OS support #215 fail for setup in python2; we should fix that if possible, but we also know that python2 support is slated for removal in the future

• Publish a new version

• Close all of the open issues that have been resolved

• Bump the major version number and remove python2 support. Distributions still shipping python2 can still use the last version, and if we really need to bugfix we can create a branch from that point to build additional bugfix releases.
