Ideas for upcoming features

I just discovered Wispar and it's amazing! I love how it fill a niche that nothing else properly fill, making it easy to survey the literature when away from the desk. Anyway, here's some ideas:

1. Swiping: Swipe left to ignore a paper, swipe right to like it, like on Tinder. The papers liked that way would be removed from the feed to show the next one(s). This would make the process more intuitive and seamless.
2. Option to limit query by date
3. Paper count: Indicate the number of papers in a feed (excluding hidden ones).
4. Query by discipline: Many database classify journals by disciplines. It's an easier entry point for users than the manual research of relevant journals and it's potentially more exhaustive.
5. Options to hide elements from the feed: Not everything presented is useful to everyone. The journal name and the license are not that useful to me for instance.

I'm sure some of those are already planned. In any case, I hope this is relevant and helpful in some way. Thanks for the app!

Hi! Thank you! 😁 Sorry for the long time replying. These are all great ideas! I've added a paper count at the top of the feed in #257. Currently, it's at the top of the publications, so you need to scroll all the way back up to view it again. I can pin it at the top if you prefer. It shows the number of publications per feed, with hidden publications excluded. By default the paper count is disabled. You will be able to enable it in the next update by going in Settings > Display settings > Show publication count.

For number 4, I've been wanting to add that for a while! OpenAlex has a "Topics" API that I can use to get a list of journals. I think I may be able to use the topics for articles too, but I'm not sure. It's been a while since I've looked at it. If articles are supported too, I can make it possible to follow topics.

For number 2, that's also something I wanted to add for searching articles with OpenAlex and also for custom feeds. There's still quite a bit of search options I haven't implemented for OpenAlex.

For 1 and 5, I'll keep them in mind!

I don't know when I will be able to implement them all, but I'll get there eventually! :)

The paper count isn't available yet. I've added the code a few days ago so it will be available in the next update!

I want to add the topics sooner than later, so if everything goes well I might be able to fit them in the next update too!

Edit: I just realized I may not have expressed myself very well on number 4 in my initial response 😅 I'll be using the topics API for sure to be able to find journals using fields/topics. For example, tapping the "Environmental science" topic would show a list of journals users can follow. It will be especially useful for the initial app setup!

En fait, je voulais parler du point 1 (le swiping), mais Github a modifié mon texte à mon insu! Désolé de la confusion.

Pour élaborer sur la question, je crois que la force de l'application est qu'elle peut être utilisée facilement hors du bureau. Plutôt que de perdre mon temps à jouer à un jeu ou aller sur Reddit, je peux ouvrir l'application et voir ce qui est nouveau dans les domaines dans lesquels je fais de la recherche. Dans ce contexte, je pense que la facilité d'usage est importante et que j'aimerais traiter l'application comme une boite de réception ou un feed RSS où je classifie les nouvelles publications dans deux catégories, soit « à lire » et « a fortiori pas pertinent pour moi ». Dans le premier cas, ça enverrait l'article vers Zotero pour que je puisse le lire à mon bureau (ou autre contexte plus approprié que mon téléphone). Dans le second, ça l'enlève de la liste afin de laisser place aux autres articles. Je ne sais pas si c'est ta vision de la chose, mais c'est tout de suite la méthodologie à laquelle j'ai pensé lorsque j'ai exploré l'application et les fonctionnalités déjà implémentées forment une base solide pour cet usage que je ne retrouve pas ailleurs.

Bref, vraiment un beau projet et je suis enthousiaste de voir la direction que ça va prendre. J'offre ces idées, mais je suis surtout curieux de savoir comment quelle direction du pense prendre avec le développement de l'application.

Ah ok, pas de problème! Je suis d'accord, je pense que c'est une bonne addition à l'application. J'avais ajouté vite-fait les "gestures", mais elles ne fonctionnaient pas exactement comme tu le proposes. Que penses-tu de quelque chose comme ça?

Je vais mettre par défaut le swipe vers la gauche --> Cacher la publication et swipe vers la droite --> Envoyer vers Zotero. Je pourrai également ajouter des options pour ton point 5 dans la nouvelle page de paramètres.
